Misconduct: Lawyer’s suspension reduced on appeal
The bench imposed a Rs500,000 fine on Advocate Imran Raza Chadhar for misbehaving with a judge
LAHORE:
A Lahore High Court special division bench on Friday reduced from three months to one month the suspension period of a lawyer’s practicing licence in his intra-court appeal against a single bench’s decision.
However, the bench imposed a Rs500,000 fine on Advocate Imran Raza Chadhar for misbehaving with a judge. It observed that the lawyers were duty bound to show respect to the judiciary. Appearing on behalf of the appellant, Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) member Azam Nazir Tarar and Lahore High Court Bar Association president Rana Zia Abdul Rehman said that Justice Shamim’s order was in violation of the law. A law officer representing the government, however, held that the intra-court appeal was not maintainable.
