SWABI: A traffic warden system has been introduced in Swabi on the directives of IGP Nasir Durrani.

The initiative was inaugurated during a ceremony held in the district on Friday.

DIG General Muhammad Tahir Khan and DPO Javed Iqbal Khan attended the event.

The new system will seek to train officials on how to overcome the chaotic situation on the road and ensure traffic regulations are enforced in a transparent and effective manner.

Under the new system, traffic wardens will be provided new uniforms and strategies will be devised to enhance cooperation between the police and the public.

During the ceremony, new uniforms were distributed among traffic police officials. They were briefed about the salient features of the new system. The officials were also requested to cooperate with the public at all times. Ali Khan, a traffic in charge, lauded the initiative as a positive step that will improve performance.

“We hope [this system] will bring a change in the condition of the roads,” he said.

In June 2015, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak inaugurated the first-of-its-kind traffic warden service in Peshawar in order to overcome the chaotic situation on some of the roads. The initiative is currently in its third phase.

Earlier this week, over 40 new motorbikes were handed to traffic wardens in Peshawar during a ceremony held at Central Police Office.
