FAISALABAD:
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) on Thursday launched a technical education programme in various trades for youth confined in prisons.
TEVTA Board of Management President Suhail bin Rashid told newsmen during a visit to the TEVTA centre set up at Borstal Jail in Faisalabad that the authority was offering education in computer applications, motor winding, motorcycle mechanics and welding. He said tailoring courses would be launched soon.
He said 25 children had been selected for each subject.
“They will be given certificates at end of the courses,” he said.
Rashid said the TEVTA was training 200,000 skilled work force annually in the Punjab.
He said skilled workers had good employment prospects abroad. “TEVTA-trained workers have a bright future,” he said.
The TEVTA president also visited classrooms and checked facilities available there.
Jail Superintendent Sheikh Azhar Hayat and TEVTA District Manager Muhammad Mukhtar were also present.
