Second convocation: 206 Khyber Medical University graduates awarded degrees
Gold medals awarded to 46 position-holders; shields presented to 13 professionals

PESHAWAR:
At least 206 graduates were awarded degrees at the second convocation of Khyber Medical University (KMU) on Thursday.
The event was held at the varsity’s auditorium. The event was attended by health professionals, faculty members, parents and students.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said a university is entrusted with the responsibility of creating and disseminating knowledge.
“As the only public sector medical university of the province, KMU is striving to provide opportunities for academic development and promote research in all health-related spheres,” he said.
The governor added, “KMU, with its skill-driven programmes, can make a valuable contribution to the public as well as private health sectors across the world.”
During the convocation, 46 gold medals were also awarded to position-holders from various programmes at the varsity. Special shields were also awarded to 13 professionals who had served the varsity in different capacities.
“I am delighted to attend the convocation and to acknowledge the hard work of the students,” Jhagra said. “The degree will open vast avenues of personal and
professional development.”
Torchbearers of tomorrow
According to the governor, KMU had managed to attain recognition over a limited period of time and now considered a model medical university.
“The degrees awarded to the graduates connote new responsibilities,” he said. “They will need to work with devotion as [their profession requires them to deal with] human lives,” he said.
Jhagra added, “I believe today’s graduates are the potential workforce of the health sector.
Their services will be needed to achieve the objectives of the government to help its people live a healthier and prosperous life.”
Annual report
Earlier, KMU Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Hafizullah presented the varsity’s annual report. He said the university had nurtured competence by prioritising learning and innovation and preparing visionary leaders.
He added the varsity had participated in several researches and organised several conferences.
“We are proud to have hosted seven health research conferences and launched four research journals,” Hafizullah said.
