Gubernatorial residence: Governor’s House of no use, LHC told
Dogar said the government should put up the property for sale
LAHORE:
Justice Shahid Waheed of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued a notice to the provincial government in connection with a petition seeking the conversion of the Governor’s House into an educational institute and a hospital. The directive came on a petition by the Lawyer Foundation. The counsel for the foundation AK Dogar told the court that the sprawling property had become a hotbed of anti-constitutional activities. This had rendered it useless for the people, he said. Dogar said the government should put up the property for sale. He said proceeds from that should be used to repay the nation’s debts. If this was deemed impossible, Dogar said, the Governor’s House should be converted into an educational institute and a hospital for the people’s welfare. Justice Waheed adjourned the hearing of the petition till June 8 after listening to the arguments.
