Gillani gets bail: Ex-PM gets protective bail in new TDAP cases
Following the arguments, the court granted protective bail to Gilani and Zubair till May 23

The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday granted protective bail to Pakistan Peoples Party leader and former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for 12 days in five cases relating to the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) scam.
Justice Noorul Haq N Qureshi granted protective bail to Gilani and his former secretary Muhammad Zubair till May 23 against surety bonds of Rs100,000 each in eight cases.
A few days ago, an anti-corruption court in Karachi issued warrants after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) which is probing into the scam, nominated Gillani, Zubair and others as absconding suspects.
Gillani and some senior bureaucrats were booked for their alleged involvement in the multi-billion-rupee scam. They have been accused of issuing fraudulent trade subsidies and making false claims to receive kickbacks and commissions.
The former prime minister appeared in person, accompanied by lawyers and supporters, to seek pre-arrest bail in the cases. His counsel said that his client would surrender himself before the court which had issued non-bailable arrest warrants. He said that the FIA registered 21 FIRs on the same facts and that Gillani’s name was not mentioned earlier, but later the FIA included his name in the final charge sheets.
Following the arguments, the court granted protective bail to Gilani and Zubair till May 23.
