Arshad Pappu murder case : Warrant issued for investigating officer
It is negligence of the IO and his careless attitude towards the case
KARACHI:
An anti-terrorism court issued on Tuesday arrest warrants for the police officer investigating the triple murder case of gangster Arshad Pappu and two of his aides for not appearing during the hearing.
The ATC judge issued bailable warrants for Inspector Abid Ali Ansari of Kalakot police station, observing that negligence on his part in the 'high profile' case was intolerable.
The case has been pending for over two years for various reasons, including witnesses not appearing, and changing their statements due to the security risks involved when they do appear.
Pappu, a notorious drug peddler and ring leader, his brother Yasir Arafat, and their aide, Jumma Shera, were allegedly killed by members of a rival gang in March 2013. It was claimed that the trio were picked up by the police from their hideout in Defence Housing Authority and later handed over to another gang who wanted to settle scores with them.
The defunct Peoples Amn Committee chief, Uzair Jan Baloch, who has now been apprehended, is said to be the prime suspect behind the plot.
At the outset of Tuesday's hearing, a subordinate of Inspector Ansari, SI Wasim, appeared on his behalf and said his boss was busy with the ATC administrative court for obtaining Baloch's custody in this case.
The trial-court judge expressed displeasure that the administrative court dealt with remand matters late in the afternoon by 3pm so there was no need of the investigating officer (IO) to go there in the morning.
It is negligence of the IO and his careless attitude towards the case, therefore, the court orders his arrest, the judge added, issuing directions to the police high-ups to present him at the next hearing.
Currently, seven suspects, including Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Shahjehan Baloch, are being tried for the murder, while around nine suspects remain absconding.
