KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded on Monday a suspected Indian spy in police custody for two more days after the investigating officer pleaded that he had to be interrogated further.

Saddam Jatoi was arrested last month in a raid conducted by law enforcement agencies on a tip-off in Keamari. He has been accused of spying on sensitive security installations in the city for Indian intelligence agency, RAW. During the hearing, the investigating officer (IO) told South district judicial magistrate Salman Farooqi that the suspect had confessed to having connections with RAW.

The IO submitted a report in court which stated that the suspect had taken pictures of the port, fisheries, and important naval installations to deliver them to the spy agency. The IO added that there was a network of the suspect's accomplices in the city and further interrogation was required to bust it. The judge, approving the police plea, sent Jatoi in police custody for two more days on physical remand and sought a progress report on the next hearing.
