KARACHI: Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has announced allocating a 20% promotion quota for daroghas for the posts of sub-engineer and also decided to pay pending salaries to employees of Wapda's left bank outfall drain (LBOD) project.

He took the decision while presiding over a meeting of the irrigation department at the CM House on Monday.

Senior minister for finance and irrigation, Murad Ali Shah, said under the present arrangement daroghas have no promotion quota for the positions of sub-engineers. The CM said there should be some specific qualification for their promotion, to which Murad suggested a diploma qualification leading to a promotion.

The CM then announced allocation of a 20% quota for daroghas in promotion to the post of sub-engineer in the irrigation department.

Murad also assured the regularisation and release of salaries of around 2,600 LBOD employees after Hyderabad Commissioner Qazi Shahid Parvez brought up the issue, saying the employees have now reported to the irrigation department.
