CAA holds airport emergency exercise

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) conducted the Airport Emergency Exercise 2016 at Multan International Airport on Saturday to train the staff and to test reliability and functioning of their equipment.
Fire-fighting units of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and Rescue 1122 participated in the exercise. Ambulances of Nishtar Hospital, CMH, Edhi, the CAA, the Railway Hospital and Health Department evacuated the ‘injured’.

The CAA trainers advised teams on how to rescue passengers from a skidded aircraft.
The first phase of the exercise included putting out a fire. The CAA and Rescue 1122 squads responded to the call.
The second phase of the exercise included rescue and evacuation. The first injured passenger was moved from the aircraft to the ambulance and taken to the nearest hospital in four minutes.
Talking to APP, Airport Manager Raja Azhar Mahmood said the purpose of this exercise was to develop coordination among various agencies involved in tackling emergencies.

He said the exercise was conducted every two years at major airports under the rules set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
