LAHORE:

“Welfare of the common man is the hallmark of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s politics,” said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday.

He was addressing a delegation of PML-N workers.

“Today, Pakistan is economically stronger compared to 2013. This is because of the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who is steering the country towards peace and progress.”

“Those who put personal ambition before national interest cause the greatest damage to the country,” he said.

“The government is pushing a programme of development and has launched a number of programmes costing billions of rupees for public welfare. Those who criticise these projects are enemies of the common man.”

The chief minister said a large portion of the population resided in rural areas.

“Improving living standards of residents of rural areas is our mission,” he said.

He said the Rural Roads Programme had been launched to transform the rural economy.

“No government has invested in construction and rehabilitation of roads at such a scale before,” he said. “This programme will change the destiny of rural people.”

He said under the programme, high quality carpeted roads were being constructed. A network of new roads would be evolved by 2018.

He said the Rural Roads Programme would reduce distances between villages and cities.

The chief minister said prosperity of farmers was a top priority of the government.

“We have launched a revolutionary package for farmers and allocated Rs100 billion for it. Scores of farmers will benefit from it over the next two years.”

The chief minister said, “Farmers feed our population. Every effort will be made to address their concerns and to resolve their issues. They will be protected from recession in the global market through conducive policies.”

Sharif said no compromise would be made on protection of rights of small farmers.

“The aim of the Kissan Package is to increase per acre production and ease difficulties faced by small cultivators,” he said. “Pakistan will become prosperous as farmers prosper. This package will have a positive impact on their lives.”
