HANGU/ BANNU: Displaced people of North Waziristan have criticised the repatriation process and accused the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of embezzling funds.

This was stated by a youth and political alliance jirga on Thursday. Participants said they were yet to receive the fourth cash grant.

“Our markets and houses were demolished in the operation,” said Akbar Khan, a member of the jirga. “We demand compensation and a thorough investigation by the central government into PDMA dealings.”

The displaced people urged the PM to issue a special package for them to rebuild their markets and houses.

Earlier on Tuesday, representatives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Muttahida Qabail Party slammed the federal government, saying it has completely failed to provide facilities and relief to the affected families. Speaking in Parachinar, families of Kurram Agency threatened that they would return to the Durrani camps.

Headed back

The repatriation of the Mullah Khel tribe commenced on Thursday as 100 families had returned till the filing of this report. Upper Orakzai Political Tehsildar Imtiaz and Commanding Officer Frontier Corps Colonel Shiraz dispatched the first convoy amid tight security.

The officials stated the repatriation of Upper Orakzai Agency subdivision Ismail Zai tehsil and other parts started from April 30. They added food items and other basic amenities were being provided at various security points.

The officials also said returning children were being administered polio drops. The vehicles carrying those going back home were being escorted under the supervision of the military and Frontier Corps.

The repatriation of other registered families of Upper Orakzai will take place on May 9.

Earlier this week, 500 families returned to their native land under full security. Commanding officer Colonel Kokab and Upper Orakzai Assistant Political Agent Iqbal Wazir sent the families off in convoys.
