PESHAWAR:
The mystery surrounding the death of nine-year-old Saifullah has deepened after the boy’s family refused to provide the police investigation team access to the bereaved mother.
Faqirabad ASP Wasim Riaz told The Express Tribune they inspected the house where the incident took place and wanted to speak to the mother. However, the family did not allow them to do so.
In addition, the ASP said the investigation team was told there was no mobile phone in the house. However, when they searched the premises, they found three mobile phones.
“Such contradictions have made the entire case even more mysterious,” he added.
The team was informed that the bereaved mother was in shock after her son’s death and could not speak to them. Family members took the body to Dir for burial after post-mortem.
Saifullah’s family hails from Dir. They were living in a rented house in Yousafabad. The deceased’s father is the owner of a car bargain business and was out of the city at the time of the incident.
On Tuesday evening, the child was found from the roof of his house.
He was unconscious and had a rope around his neck. Saifullah was rushed to a doctor’s clinic and subsequently taken to Lady Reading Hospital where he died.
At LRH, doctors were told Saifullah accidentally fell from the roof of the house. However, the doctors took the family’s explanation with a pinch of salt as rope marks were clearly visible on his neck.
The doctors suspected he had been tortured.
Police said the post-mortem report would clear the matter to a great deal and they had requested for mobile phone data too.
