Overcharging: RTA to impound transport vehicles for rate violations
Rawalpindi Regional Transport Authority Secretary Khalid Yameen Satti on Tuesday directed officials to take action against transporters that have been found to be involved in overcharging passengers travelling on various routes in Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas.
While talking to the media, he said no one would be allowed to fleece commuters, adding that those indulging in overcharging would have their vehicles impounded.
He also admitted that fines ranging from Rs100 to Rs500 which are currently imposed on transporters found to be overcharging are too meagre to act as a deterrent.
He said that a number of complaints have been lodged by city residents with the RTA regarding overcharging on various routes including Dhamial camp to Saddar, Sadiqabad to Raja Bazaar, and Pirwadahi to Raja Bazaar.
The RTA secretary also directed transporters to display updated fare lists for every destination at their respective terminals.
He said strict action would be taken against all violators.
