Many in the United States believe violence through terrorism related activities is the biggest security threat facing the country. However, figures have revealed that toddlers in the US are, in fact, causing more deaths than terrorists this year.

Twenty-three people have been shot by toddlers in the US since the start of 2016, according to the Washington Post. On the other hand, no one has been shot by ‘Muslim terrorists’ over the same period.

Why Muslims should empathise with Islamophobia

These statistics put into question the stance adopted by politicians like Donald Trump who have proposed a ban on Muslims entering the US.

Eleven of the toddler shooting cases in 2016 have been fatal, while nine of them involved the toddler getting hold of a handgun and shooting him or herself, according to the report.

A series of administrative and law enforcement practices have been passed against Muslims in the US. This includes the NYPD's disgraced Demographics Unit, which dedicated years of resources to surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods in the tri-state area. The programme is yet to find evidence against any Muslim.

Despite this, Muslims across the country are victims of hate crimes. Since November, there have been at least six documented incidents of Muslims being removed from commercial airline flights because fellow passengers felt threatened by them.
