Lal shahbaz urs: Railways GM issued notice on plea for special trains
Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan ordered the PR authorities to respond to the notice by May 6
LAHORE:
Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a notice to the Pakistan Railways (PR) general manager on a petition filed by All Pakistan Jhoolay Lal Council requesting the court to order the PR to run special trains on the annual urs of Sakhi Lal Shahbaz Qalander.
Sheikh Tariq Abbas, the council president, submitted that pilgrims from across the world participated in the urs every year. He said in 2009, the PR had run 12 special trains for the pilgrims. He said that no such trains were run in 2010 and 2011 although the court had ordered the railway authorities to announce special trains for the purpose. The petitioner said that on March 10, he had filed an application with the department requesting it to announce special trains for the urs. He said he had also requested the PR to announce a 10 per cent discount on the fare. He requested the court to direct the PR to run two trains each for the urs from Lahore, Wazirabad, Lalamusa and Faisalabad. Justice Shahid Bilal Hasan ordered the PR authorities to respond to the notice by May 6.
