Afghan nationals have till May 21 to secure legitimate travel documents. After the deadline, they will not be allowed to cross over Torkham Border unless they have passports and other paperwork.
While speaking to The Express Tribune on Sunday, Assistant Political Agent Rahim Mehsud said, “Afghan nationals are our brothers and we will provide them with full support.” He added, “The deadline has been extended for their convenience.”
However, security personnel at Torkham Border Yousaf Afridi said, “Due to strict orders of the authorities, the number of Afghan nationals crossing the border today was low.”
An Afghan national commented, “People in Afghanistan are unaware of travel documents and they face hurdles in getting a passport as the office lacks basic facilities.” He added, “People who travel this route daily
are not satisfied with
these steps.”
A few weeks ago, a meeting was held in Torkham where it was decided to restrict the movement of Afghan nationals at the border who were travelling without legal documents and passport. The deadline issued was April 30.
