Owing to conflict with Armenia, Azerbaijan ranks 15th in the world list of arms importers

Azerbaijan’s Defence Industries Minister Yavar Jamalov has shown interest in procuring warheads from Pakistan.
During a meeting with Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Azerbaijan’s minister called for speeding up procurement process.
Azerbaijan, Armenia forces clash as Putin urges ceasefire
He asked for designing a special mechanism to avoid formalities that delay procurement. For this purpose, the Azerbaijani minister proposed appointing focal persons from the respective ministries of both the countries to speed up procurement process.
According to a press release, Tanveer expressed readiness for transfer of technology and joint ventures with the friendly country.
Pakistan was among the first countries to recognise Azerbaijan and supports its claim over the Nagorno-Karabakh territory against Armenia. Owing to conflict with Armenia, Azerbaijan ranks 15th in the world list of arms importers.

Azerbaijan, which is in war with neighboring Armenia over the latter's territorial claims during more than 20 years, keeps in focus the armament, working closely with leading companies and firms in various fields of military industry.
The country purchased numerous weapons from foreign countries including Turkey, Russia and Israel, to modernise and upgrade its armed forces, and signed military contracts with over 20 countries which envisage a large-scale weapons supply.
