PHC seeks inquiry report into BKU attack

PESHAWAR:
The Peshawar High has directed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government to submit the report of an enquiry conducted by a fact-finding committee into the attack on Bacha Khan University (BKU) in Charsadda. The report had recommended the removal of university’s security incharge Ashfaq Ahmad.
The high court also extended the stay order through which it restrained the relevant authority from taking action against Ahmad.
A division bench comprising Justice Irshad Qaiser and Justice Syed Afsar Shah heard the case on Tuesday. The petition was filed by Ahmad through his lawyers Abdul Latif Afridi and Khalid Afridi.
The bench was informed that militants attacked the varsity on January 20 and killed several teachers and students.
The attorneys said security staff acted promptly, resisted the terrorists and kept them engaged till security forces arrived. After the attack, the K-P government had set up a committee under the supervision of the Peshawar division commissioner. It consisted of Mardan deputy inspector general and Charsadda deputy commissioner.
The attorneys said the committee after completing its enquiry held the security head of the university responsible for negligence and urged the K-P governor to remove him.
