Injured Swann to head back home

Spinner ruled out of ODI series against Australia.

ADELAIDE:
England are confident spinner Graeme Swann will be fit for next month’s World Cup, despite being ruled out of the rest of the Australia tour with a back injury, as he heads back home.

England coach Andy Flower said Swann would not play in any of the final four matches of the seven-game One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia.

Tim Bresnan has already gone back after suffering a calf strain. Flower said the gruelling tour, now well into its third month, was taking its toll.

“Swann will be taking the earliest flight home,” said Flower.

“We are coming to the end of a long, hard tour and the physical challenges are starting to take their toll.”

Meanwhile, James Anderson, rested for the first three games, is expected to play today, and batsman Kevin Pietersen has shrugged off a groin problem.
