Irish firm keen to invest in trucking industry

Irish company, Harris Group, says it also intends to set up commercial vehicle testing centre.

ISLAMABAD: Irish company, Harris Group has shown keen interest in investing in the trucking sector of Pakistan with the intention of setting up a facility to up-grade and refurbish used trucks.

This was disclosed at a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani where representatives of Harris Group of Ireland met with senior officials of the Ministry and Engineering Development Board (EDB), here on Tuesday.

In addition, the firm will set up a commercial vehicle testing centre for roadworthiness based on European standards and provision of a full dealer network.

Bijarani welcomed the proposal for investment in Pakistan and advised the company to come up with concrete proposals for establishment of the said unit. He said that increased road safety and lesser road maintenance would be expected due to European specified vehicle standards and road-friendly suspension.

The company assured the minister that a detailed proposal will be submitted shortly to EDB for evaluation of technical parameters.
