National Golf Championship: Taimur four strokes ahead on day three
Carded par score 72 to extend lead; Mehmood, Asif second, third respectively

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Taimur Khan used all his experience, skills and temperament to stay on top of the 55th National Amateur Golf Championship of Pakistan after scoring a par 72 in the third round to accumulate an aggregate lead of par 216 at the Defence Raya Golf Course in Lahore yesterday.
“My game has been fruitful indeed and with every shot I feel more and more in control,” said Taimur. “Although my lead is four strokes, my strategy will be to avoid any rash shot in the final round.”
Following Taimur is Ghazanfar Mehmood, who scored a three-under-par 69 to finish the third round with an aggregate score of four-over-par 220, while Zohaib Asif is third with a three-day aggregate score of six-over-par 222.

Meanwhile, the Punjab golf team comprising Mohammad Rehman, Ahmed Baig, Ashiq Hussain and Mehmood succeeded in winning the title of the inter-association team, but only after facing the biggest scare caused by the Sindh A team, which consisted of Ahmed Ali Shah, Waseem Rana, Zohaib Asif and Captain Anser Mehmood.
At the beginning of the day, the Punjab team had a lead of 10 strokes, but as the game progressed, the Sindh players managed to stage a comeback and closed the day level with Punjab.
Golf’s finest compete in toughest Masters for years
As per the rules, teams had to nominate one player each for a sudden death play-off.
Punjab opted for Baig and Sindh selected Asif. The play-off turned out to be a frighteningly tight affair, but Baig held his composure to play a super shot to earn himself a birdie and a title for his team.
