Shahdara police said on Friday that a case had been registered against a godman for allegedly assaulting a woman. Tehmina, a sister of the victim, said she had gone with her husband and sister to peer Muhammad Azam to have him pray for the victim’s quick marriage. She said he had asked her sister to recite the sixth kalima. Tehmina said he had assaulted her after she failed to do so. Muhammad Ishaq, the brother of the peer, told journalists that Azam had merely asked the woman to recite the first kalima. Ishaq, who is under arrest, said the woman had started misbehaving with him. He said his brother had asked the woman’s sister and brother-in-law in vain to stop her from misbehaving. Police were conducting raids to nab the absconding godman.
