Fight the virus: Polio campaign continues
After completing the drive in Karachi, the authorities are planning to start the anti-polio campaign in rural Sindh
KARACHI:
Deadly attacks on the policemen guarding the polio teams did not stop the volunteers who continued their door-to-door vaccination drive on Thursday.
Nearly 7,000 polio teams participated in the drive on Thursday and covered all parts of the city, including Orangi Town where seven policemen were killed in two consecutive targeted attacks on Wednesday. "We did not suspend our drive," said an official of the emergency operation centre for polio. "Today [Thursday], was our 'catch-up' day and passed peacefully under the heightened security of more than 5,000 cops and 300 Rangers men." After completing the drive in Karachi, the authorities are planning to start the anti-polio campaign in rural Sindh from April 25, he added.
