Fundamental Rights: LHC to hear wedding curfew challenge

The plea was filed by Advocate Ali Gillani against a new law which places restriction on wedding celebrations

LAHORE:
Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of Lahore High Court sought a reply from the government on Wednesday on how the government had planned to impose a restriction on celebrating weddings at private residences after 10pm. The judge remarked that it was strange to place such curbs. If wastage of energy was the key concern, the judge asked, how were these restrictions justified when people paid for electricity used at these events? The judge directed the government to file a reply in a week. The plea was filed by Advocate Ali Gillani against a new law which places restriction on wedding celebrations. He said that every citizen had the right to hold weddings at their house in whatever way they wanted to. He requested that the law be struck down for violating the Constitution.
