Appointment: LHC adjourns hearing of petition
The petitioner’s counsel, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, said that Dr Ahmad was appointed in violation of rules
LAHORE:
Justice Shahid Karim of Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday gave another chance to the federal government for filing its reply on a petition, challenging the appointment of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmad. Appearing on behalf of the federal government, a law officer requested the court for more time to file the reply. The hearing was then adjourned for an indefinite period. The judge was hearing the petition filed by Munir Ahmad. The petitioner’s counsel, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, said that Dr Ahmad was appointed in violation of rules. He said he had received both his PhD and MBA in 1995. “Being a director of HEC, he had himself attested his degrees. Two degrees cannot be completed, simultaneously. Dr Ahmad lacked qualification and experience required for the post. The appointment is the result of political consideration,” he said. He requested the court to set aside the appointment.
