Mqm Dissidents’ Seats: By-polls on PS-106, PS-117 on June 2
The scrutiny of nomination papers will start on May 3 and continue until May 5
KARACHI:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced by-polls on the provincial assembly seats, PS-106 and PS-117, on June 2, 2016. The seats, both in Karachi city, had become vacant after lawmakers from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Iftikhar Alam and Dr Sagheer Ahmed, resigned to join Pak Sarzameen Party of former MQM leader Mustafa Kamal. According to a notification issued by the ECP, candidates contesting the elections will be filing nomination papers between April 25 and April 26. The scrutiny of nomination papers will start on May 3 and continue until May 5. Meanwhile, May 9 has been fixed as the last date for filing appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 16 while the final list of candidates will be displayed on May 17.
