Additionally, the governing body of the LDA has given administrative approval for a Rs52 million project for the external electrification of the Venus Town Housing Scheme on Ferozepur Road.
The fruit and vegetable market in Kot Lakphat lies on 100 kanals in the Model Town Extension Housing Scheme. The land was purchased by the LDA in 1978 from the Model Town Society. The market has long been blamed for pollution and traffic congestion. It has been decided now that the market will be moved and that the LDA will purchase an additional 35 kanals of land near the 100 kanals.
The Venus Town Housing Scheme was launched close to 30 years ago and was sanctioned in 1982 by the LDA. The plot owners approached the Supreme Court as civic amenities were not provided by the sponsor in the scheme. In compliance with the orders of the apex court the LDA will provide external electrification costing Rs52 million. The amount will be recovered after 81 plots that the sponsor had mortgaged with the LDA as guarantee are auctioned off.
The governing body meeting was chaired by DCO Ahad Khan Cheema, the ex-officio LDA chairman. LDA acting director general Hafiz Ihsanul Haq and representatives of the Planning and Development, Housing and Finance Departments also attended the meeting.
