The Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) has decided to provide multimedia support to Allama Iqbal Open University to start twelve skill-based courses in the field of multimedia, vocational and agriculture.

Initially, two courses will be launched relating to audio-video recording and editing. In this connection, the CEMCA will come up with technical and financial support while the courses have been developed by the university’s Institute of Educational Technology, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

Addressing the courses’ review-meeting, AIOU Vice-Chancellor Prof Shahid Siddiqui said that the courses will help build up expertise and necessary know-how for arranging vocational and technical training for the youth.

This, he said, was part of the university’s consistent efforts to promote its collaboration with national and international institutions to equip its students with latest knowledge and technology.

The AIOU wanted to utilize its available potential and infrastructure for addressing socio-economic issues of the society through academic and research-based activities, he said.

The proposed courses include audio-video recording and editing, video camera handling, still photography, graphic and set design, digital camera repairing and maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning repairing and maintenance, cell phone repairing, commercial poultry farming, construction of poultry farm, poultry processing and marketing and value-addition.
