Businesses push for economic miracle
Say political forces must consult them for charting future course of action

Business leaders have urged all political parties to tie up with the private sector for preparing and executing the national agenda to achieve the much-touted industrial and economic revolution.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad, Senior Vice President Almas Hyder and Vice President Nasir Saeed suggested that the political debate and economic policy considerations needed convergence at this critical juncture when competition was continuously growing at the global level.
“This is a prerequisite to help lessen dependence on international financial institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and to pave the way for self-reliance in coming years,” they said.
The LCCI high-ups pointed out that Pakistan was in dire need of policymaking stability as well as strong institutions and to achieve the objective, both the politicians and business leaders would have to sit together for arriving at a common economic agenda.
“In order to compete head-to-head with great nations of the world, we have to think beyond tomorrow and tackle all the governance-related issues for the sake of future generations.”
They asked political forces to initiate consultations, without any further delay, with the economic leadership, including the chambers of commerce and industry, to chart an elaborate plan of action in an effort to rely less on external assistance and achieve the long-cherished economic goals.
“Unemployment is the mother of a number of social ills being witnessed by the country today and the private sector has the solution provided it is facilitated through a proper methodology,” they remarked.
