The convocation is a source of prestige and honour for the students, said KU's registrar Professor Dr Moazzam Ali Khan. He also announced that a total of 1,779 students have submitted registration forms for the convocation, as of April 12, while 238 students of different programmes of bachelors, honours, masters and doctorates will be awarded gold medals. These 1,779 students are from different departments of science, administrative and management sciences and arts.
Speaking about the special security arrangements done for the convocation day, admissions director Dr Khalid Iraqi said that Sindh Rangers director-general Major-General Bilal Akbar also visited the campus on Thursday and met the vice chancellor, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser.
Major-General Akbar assured the provision of Rangers personnel for the security of the event. "The convocation will host more than 6,000 people including faculty members and two guests with each student," explained Khan.
KU's registrar also announced that a special gold medal dedicated to the students of Army Public School, Peshawar, titled 'Shuhada-e-Peshawar' will be awarded to the student who secured the highest marks in all the faculties throughout the university.
He added that Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan's participation is confirmed so far but nothing can be certain due to security concerns. Meanwhile, the governor's adviser for higher education and media, Syed Wajahat Ali, confirmed the presence of the governor at the convocation.
On the convocation day, guests will be allowed to enter from all three gates - Maskan, Sheikh Zayed and Kaneez Fatima. "Parking arrangements have been made separately near all three gates and a continuous shuttle service will be there to pick and drop guests from the gates till Valika Ground [the convocation site]," informed Iraqi. A shuttle service has also been arranged for the guests who do not have their own vehicles.
The university's convocation in 2015 was postponed in January due to security reasons after the Bacha Khan University attack.
