LAHORE: An additional district and sessions’ judge on Tuesday sought comments from Sherakot SHO in a petition seeking action against a man on charges of sexual assault. Petitioner Jameela Bibi submitted that a year after her husband’s death she had married Rahmat Ali, a neighbour, and moved in with him. She said that Ali had kept their marriage deed with him since their marriage. She said some days ago she had needed the marriage deed to get a computerised national identity card (CNIC). When asked for the deed, Ali kept delaying the matter on one pretext or the other, she said. However, she said, Ali eventually told her that their marriage deed was fake and that he had staged the ceremony so she would move in with her. The petitioner said she had immediately approached the police for registration of a sexual assault case against him. She said the SHO had refused to lodge her complaint.
