Gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying a former mayor of Hangu, killing three people and wounding four others, including the previous mayor, the Associated Press reported.

Gunmen attacked the former mayor of Hangu town, Amir Faisal, on Sunday as he was riding in a vehicle with his relatives, said police official Gul Jamal. Faisal’s father, nephew and driver were killed, and the mayor and three passers-by were wounded, he said.

The gunmen fled on motorcycles, but one of them was injured in a shoot-out with police and captured, said Jamal.

Meanwhile in Peshawar, a roadside bomb killed a policeman and injured three other people at Sarband road. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

Unidentified terrorists had planted the bomb which went off when a police van was within close proximity to it.

Police had cordoned off the area for further investigations.
