Locals reps: By-polls on May 5 in Haripur

Elections will take place for five districts and general councillors’ seats

HARIPUR:
By-elections for a district council and four village council seats will be held in different parts of Haripur on May 5. This was stated by returning officer Sardar Aftab in Haripur on Sunday.

As per the schedule, the nomination papers will be accepted on Monday (today) and Tuesday. The list of candidates will be displayed on April 13 after which objections will be taken on April 14. The papers will be scrutinised on April 14 and withdrawals will be allowed up until April 22. The final list of contestants will be put up on April 25.

The district council seat that is lying vacant is in Kholiyan Bala union council. It was left vacant after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s district councillor Javed Khan Jadoon was assassinated on the premises of Haripur district courts on December 19, 2015. Javed Khan was at the court attend ing the hearing of a murder case.


His suspected assassin was arrested from a neighbouring educational institute a few minutes later.

The seat of Talokar peasant councillor was left vacant when elected councillor Tariq Mehmood Khan died in a road accident. On the other hand, in Beesbun and Sarai Saleh, by-elections will be held for the berths of a general councillor in the village council. In Hilly, by-elections will be held on the seat of a woman councillor.
