HARIPUR:

A woman was allegedly strangled by her in-laws in Noordi village, Haripur on Thursday.

A police official told The Express Tribune, the deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Samina Bibi. She was four months pregnant.

“Her uncle, Zahoor Ahmed, told the police Samina Bibi was married to Abbas Afzal – an employee of a private company in Rawalpindi,” he said.

“Samina Bibi used to frequently complain about her troubled relationship with her husband and in-laws. Ahmed also accused Abbas of beating Samina Bibi over minor matters.”

On Wednesday evening, Ahmed was informed that his niece’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her in-law’s house.

“When he reached the site with the police, he saw there were marks on Samina Bibi’s body that suggested she had been severely beaten and was possibly strangled,” the official said.

Ahmed accused Samina Bibi’s father-in-law Kamal Afzal and mother-in-law Feroza Bibi of murdering his niece and claimed Abbas was also hand in glove with his parents.

Police have registered an FIR and arrested Kamal and Feroza Bibi. However, the accused denied the charges, saying Samina Bibi had committed suicide over unknown reasons.
