Via courier: Two MQM MPAs resign from assembly
The speaker has the power to decline a resignation and to scrutinise it before making a decision
KARACHI:
Two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPAs, Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Iftikhar Alam, sent their letter of resignation to the speaker of the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday. Both resignations were sent via courier service, Sindh Assembly secretary Umer Farooq told The Express Tribune. “As per rules, the MPAs need to show up personally and tender their resignations,” he said. The speaker has the power to decline a resignation and to scrutinise it before making a decision. “We will examine their resignations” he stated. Subsequently, after accepting the resignations, the speaker will de-notify their seats followed by by-elections.
