BAHAWALPUR: The government’s Rozgaar-Zakaat Rickshaw Scheme was a splendid welfare programme that would help financially-distressed people to earn a respectable livelihood, Minister for Cooperatives Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar said on Monday. He was speaking at an event where seven people were handed over the keys to rickshaws. The recipients were selected through a draw. District Zakaat Committee Chairman Roy Ghulam Hassan Daha, Deputy Administrator Muhammad Aslam Ramay, Zakaat District Officer Malik Ghulam Rasool, Faiz Bakhsh and other officials of district zakaat committee were present on the occasion. The minister said that the government was sympathetic towards the poor and was trying to provide them better employment opportunities. The auto-rickshaw distribution welfare scheme was transparent, he said. The minister advised the recipients to stay mindful of traffic rules while driving the rickshaws. Daha lauded the welfare scheme and said it would impact a lot of lives. Ramay said in accordance with the Zakaat Auto Rickshaw Scheme, 20 people had submitted their applications, of whom seven were selected through a draw. “They have been handed over the keys to their rickshaws today.”
