Around five candidates have been issued nomination papers by the returning officer for the by-elections on the PK-8, Peshawar-VIII seat on Friday. The seat fell vacant after the demise of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Arbab Akbar Hayat Khan on March 17.
An official privy to the development told The Express Tribune two candidates have no political affiliations and are likely to contest the polls as independents.
Former provincial minister and JUI-F leader Asif Iqbal Daudzai has also received nomination papers. “The names of the other two candidates could not be ascertained,” the official said.
PML-N has decided to field Arbab Waseem Hayat – who is the nephew of Arbab Akbar – for the seat. The by-elections will be held on May 12.
