KARACHI: Around the same time last year, Jal made a comeback to mainstream music with Tere Bajoun, their first music video in several years. Having survived more than one breakups and years of turbulence, the band is now gearing up for yet another music video for a song called Bhawray.

According to band front man Goher Mumtaz, they are keen on continuing their collaboration with producer-director Azaan Sami Khan, who had also directed Tere Bajoun. “We are currently in talks with him and will hopefully be starting work on it very soon, once the dates are finalised,” the Jal guitarist told The Express Tribune.

With the project still in the pipeline, Mumtaz was not willing to give away too many details about the upcoming song. “We are still working on it. All I can tell you is that the video will be both performance-based and have a concept … it will be a little experimental,” he said. Production on the video is expected to commence in the second week of April, following which it would be released in a month’s time. “We initially wanted to shoot it in February but unfortunately, had to postpone it due to the director’s busy schedule,” he revealed.

Bhawray will be Jal’s third music video in one year. After Tere Bajoun, Mumtaz had recorded a song in commemoration of Defence Day, titled Ooncha. He had also recreated one of Alamgir’s songs, Tum Hi Se Ae Mujahido, for the occasion.

As far as the future of Jal is concerned, Mumtaz said that the band would now consist of a “rather free-moving line-up”, with guitarist-composer Saad Sultan and bassist Amir Azhar filling in for live shows and studio recording sessions.
