Five dead in Lakki Marwat blast
DPO Ali Akbar Shah said the deceased were from the families displaced by the ongoing military operation in NWA
LAKKI MARWAT:
A roadside bombing killed five people in Lakki Marwat on Thursday. The explosion, which left a nine-foot-deep crater, destroyed a car travelling to South Waziristan.
Five bodies were pulled out of the vehicle, which was targeted by an improvised explosive device in the Kot Kashmir area, police said. The area was cordoned off immediately by military and police personnel.
Security sources said a high-alert was enforced in the district 24 hours ago because of an intelligence tip-off.
DPO Ali Akbar Shah told The Express Tribune the deceased were from the families displaced by the ongoing military operation in North Waziristan. He said it was still unclear whether the explosives were being carried in the vehicle or if somebody planted a bomb underneath the car. “We are investigating to get to the bottom of the incident," Akbar told AFP.
South Waziristan is one of the seven tribal regions where the military has been battling militants for years.
