KARACHI: On their second day of reviewing progress reports of the three federally-run hospitals in the city, the Senate standing committee on health met the administration of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) on Saturday.

Heading the meeting, the committee’s chairperson Kalsoom Perveen voiced concern over the pending expansion project in the hospital which was initiated about two years ago. The Rs460 million project includes the construction of seven operation theatres, two generators, two elevators and other machinery that must now be completed within two months, she instructed.

A committee to ensure the completion of the project is being formed and includes the federal additional secretary for health, she added. Other issues pertaining to the cardiovascular hospital were also discussed, including some administrative grievances. Perveen said there was no shortage of funds and federally controlled hospitals need to be more efficient.
