Rehabilitation centres to be set up across the city
The list of rehabilitation centres would also be published in leading newspapers, so the public is aware of them
KARACHI:
The Sindh health department has decided to establish three control rooms to monitor the heatwave situation this season, along with fully-equipped rehabilitation centres across the city to treat heatstroke patients.
Health minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has also asked the various stakeholders to submit a contingency plan for the upcoming natural disaster.
The minister chaired a meeting on Monday at the committee room of Sindh Assembly which was attended by health secretary Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, deputy commissioners of all six districts of Karachi, medical superintendents of hospitals and other officials.
The meeting decided to take public and private hospitals, ambulance services, scouts and girls guides, revenue department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, K-Electric and the Pakistan Meteorological Department on board with regards to the department’s plan to deal with the heatwave.
Discussing preventive measures, the participants of the meeting decided to conduct short courses as well as a massive public awareness campaign through electronic and print media on how to treat victims.
The list of rehabilitation centres would also be published in leading newspapers, so the public is aware of them. Water, ambulances and basic medicines would be provided at these centres so heatstroke victims can receive instant treatment, it was further decided. The minister also directed hospital managements to enhance staff capacity, ensure community participation and volunteer services and establish a task force to deal with the crisis.
