Rest in peace: Sikh community leader passes away

Sham Singh is known in the Sikh community for his efforts for the uplift of gurdwaras and historical sites for Sikhs

LAHORE:

Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) chairman Sardar Sham Singh died on Sunday.

He fell ill a few weeks ago and was admitted to the Combined Military Hospital. Singh, 80, was the first president of the PSGPC formed in 1998, and was elected several terms as its head.

Born on December 11, 1936 in Faisalabad, Sham Singh is known in the Sikh community for his efforts for the uplift of gurdwaras and historical sites for Sikhs.

After his appointment in 1998, the then president of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar Bibi Jagir Kaur stopped sending pilgrims to Pakistan. Though the SGPC has since recognised the PSGPC, yet they differ on dates for events.
