Exporters delegation to visit Japan
Trade Development Authority of Pakistan says it has launched activities to promote exports to the Japanese market.
KARACHI:
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has launched activities to promote the country’s export products in the Japanese market, its Chief Executive Tariq Puri said.
He was speaking during a video conference with Lahore-based exporters of fabrics and clothing who will attend Japan Fashion Week - International Fashion Fair (JFW-IFF) from January 26 to 28. Puri said that TDAP has finalised arrangements for providing facilities to the exporters including visas and the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) has already set meetings with big companies.
He said that Japan is importing about 85 per cent garments from China, adding Japanese businesses are now in the process of diversifying their imports from other parts of the region like Indonesia, Vietnam and Bangladesh. Currently, Pakistan’s readymade garments are mainly exported to the US and the EU. Evidently, quality is not an issue because brands like Levis, Nike, GAP, Tommy Hilfiger, Chaps, Ralph Lauren, Polo, and Van Heusen are being manufactured in Pakistan.
Over the next three to five years, Jetro and TDAP teams will work together for setting up a joint venture with Japanese companies for promotion of Pakistani products, Puri said.
