KARACHI: When Tahir Sheikh, who lives in a flat in Shoe Market, received a bill for Rs8 million from the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) he decided to go to court.

In his petition, Sheikh told the court that till September 2009, KESC had charged him for whatever he actually used per month at his home in Mama Chal Compound, Lawrence Quarters. But then it started sending huge bills.

One of them was for 36 months, amounting to Rs8,196,900 in April 2010, even though his connection was severed in October 2009.

The division bench of the Sindh High Court heard both sides and then directed KESC on Friday to submit detailed comments in the petition.

It asked KESC to also file copies of the bills which will justify the Rs1.5 million, which is outstanding in the electricity connection for the Mama Chal Compound.

The bench put off the hearing till January 28.
