ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Wednesday said that only nations which maintained a strong bond with their civilizations progressed.

“Nations which do not value their civilisations, lag behind in the world,” he said while addressing the oath-taking ceremony for Society of Civilization Pakistan (SCP) newly elected body in Islamabad.

Rashid said giving importance to ‘time’ was an important part of our culture and civilisation. To elaborate his point he referred to the stone sundial clocks which had been placed in Taxila at a time when no such mechanism to determine time existed in other civilisations.

“Our region has experienced many ups and downs,” he said, adding that there was a strong link of any civilisation with land, environment, history and wars.

The minister paid tribute to late Professor Ahmed Hasan Dani, a renowned intellectual, archaeologist, historian, and linguist. He said Prof Dani had promoted Pakistan’s culture and civilisation and his services would long be remembered by the country.

SCP Senior Vice President Malik Tariq Hayat briefed about the working of the body and detailed plans of their upcoming cultural study tour to Malaysia and Indonesia in July, 2016. Earlier, Rashid administered oath to the newly elected members of SCP body and congratulated their unopposed elections.

He also cut a cake along with the SCP office-bearers to mark the 16th foundation anniversary of the body.
