Wildlife protection: Committee formed to draft provincial policy

The committee has been asked to submit a progress report within a week

A five-member committee has been constituted for drafting a wildlife policy for the province. It has been asked to submit a progress report within a week. The decision was taken at a meeting on Monday.  A statement issued in this regard said that Wildlife Department Director Naeem Bhatti was the convener of the committee. Deputy Director (Planning) Mian Hafeez, Deputy Directors (Wildlife) Rawalpindi region Muhammad Anwar Usman and Lahore region Anwar Hussain Gul and Lahore Zoo Director Shafqat Ali were the other members of the committee.  The statement said that the committee had been asked to study the federal government’s wildlife policy and charters drafted by other countries with assistance from the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF).  Speaking at the occasion, Wildlife and Parks Department Director General Khalid Ayaz Khan said the policy would help improve efforts for protection of wildlife in the province.
