RAWALPINDI:
Punjab Minister for Labour and Manpower Raja Ashfaq Sarwar on Sunday visited areas affected by recent landslides in Murree and constituted committees for damage assessment.
The committee headed by Murree and Kotli Sattian assistant commissioners will carry out assessment of damages and will present a report to the Punjab government within a week.
The committees comprise elected local representatives and officials of the district administration.
Landslides triggered by heavy rains have damaged houses, infrastructure and link roads and uprooted hundreds of trees in several union councils of Murree and Kotli Sattian tehsils.
Sarwar said the provincial government had taken steps to provide shelter, food and other necessities to those affected and assured them of financial compensation once the damage assessment has been completed.
He said families whose house have been partially or completely damaged would be given financial compensation and would be rehabilitated in their localities as soon as possible.
The minister visited families affected by landslides and expressed sympathies with them.
Sarwar directed the departments concerned to immediately make alternate arrangements for provision of civic facilities in affected areas and restore link roads.
He said the infrastructure had been badly damaged in the areas and added that the government would take steps to rehabilitate all basic facilities.
Locals also apprised the minister about other issues facing them.
Local leaders of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), elected local bodies representatives and officials of the Punjab highway department also accompanied Sarwar.
