Supplies reach quake-hit Dalbandin

Five trucks carrying 1,000 blankets, 220 tents, 1,000 warm clothes, 1,000 gloves and 250 packets of food dispatched.

Relief activities in earthquake-affected areas of Dalbandin and other adjoining townships in Chagai district began on Thursday.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Commissioner Chagai, Saeed Jamali said that around 250 mud houses were damaged in Dalbandin and Nokundi areas. “Fifty houses were damaged in Nokundi and relief efforts have begun in those places,” he added.

Provincial Minister Aman-ullah Notezai received the C-130 consignment, which was carrying 300 tents and 150 cartons of medicine. “Chagai is the largest district of Pakistan and its population is spread over more than 44,000 square kilometers. We are working to assess the damage in other townships,” the minister told reporters. Jamali said there is more need of blankets, tents, food and medicine. He added that no loss of life has been reported so far.


According to the military’s Inter Services Public Relations, five trucks carrying 1,000 blankets, 220 tents, 1,000 warm clothes, 1,000 gloves and 250 packets of food have been dispatched to Dalbandin.

Assistant Commissioner Tufail Baloch said two relief trucks had also been sent by the provincial government which will arrive today (Friday).
