BAHALWALPUR:
Dr Qaiser Mushtaq, vice chancellor of the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), and German Ambassador to Pakistan Ina Lepel met at the university’s Abbasia Campus on Friday and discussed opportunities for collaboration between the IUB and German universities.
The vice chancellor appreciated the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s work to promote research at the university.
The organisation has recently provided the IUB’s Chemistry Department advanced equipment and has helped set up several scholarships.
The ambassador congratulated the VC on IUB’s rise in the Higher Education Commission ranking.
The university had jumped from 51st position in the ranking last year to 11th this year.
He offered assistance in arranging for German language courses, faculty exchange programmes, scholarships and collaboration in research.
Mushtaq thanked the ambassador for visiting the IUB and said that the university had made tremendous progress in academics and research. “That is encouraging,” he said.
The vice chancellor said that they had created a new academic calendar and shut down some of the evening classes at the university. He said these classes had required high tuition fees. They had been converted to morning classes at regular IUB rates. “This has been well received.”
Professor Muhammad Asghar Hashmi, the dean of Faculty of Science, and Dr Saleem Associate from the Department of Chemistry were also present.
